William O'Brien State Park lies along the St. Croix River just north of Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota.
I arrived at the park about 1/2 hour before sunrise and immediately noticed this scene. I could tell in the early morning twilight the the red oak leaves would contrast nicely with the yellow of the birches. I simply composed the picture, waited for the sun to pop up behind me and light the trees and bingo.
