About The River The St. Croix River flows between Minnesota and Wisconsin before emptying into the Mississippi River at Prescott, Wisconsin. The river actually is the border between these two states for most of its' length. The St. Croix was designated a wild and scenic river by Congress in 1968. In the 1800's, the lumbermen came and exhausted the inexhaustible supply of white pine in the St. Croix River Valley. These days people come from all over the world to camp, hike and paddle in this scenic river valley. River towns Taylor's Falls, Marine on St. Croix, Stillwater and Afton, Minnesota along with Wisconsin river towns St Croix Falls, Osceola, Hudson and Prescott attract many visitors each year.
